Hostess Twinkie Maker Reviews
I must admit my first batch flopped because I forgot to spray the grill first and took the twinkies out too soon. The second batch was much better after I sprayed the pan with butter-flavored Pam and cooked the full 7 minutes. Pry up with a spoon under one side and they pop right out. I cooked the second batch immediately following the first (with no cleanup first and not waiting for element to heat up with green light). Again, the second batch only took 7 minutes and turned out perfectly. I agree the cleanup kind of stinks... Hostess should come up with some removeable grill plates like the George Foreman grill. But overall, these are super tasty and all natural... Not like the twinkies you buy at the store that have all those chemical preservative ingredients in them that keep them fresh for over 100 years! And in my opinion, these taste way better! I ran out of time to inject the icing into the cakes, so I put the icing in a container and brought it to...

I picked up one of these units at the Grocery Store for $20. I used the 'Classic Twinkie Recipe' and they turned out fantastic. They cooked in 7 minutes. They popped right out of the mold when I opened the lid. (*If you try to remove them before they finish cooking as the other commenter did, then you will have a big mess like they did, but if you follow the instructions and actually use a tooth pick to see if they are done, then they will release from the mold with ease*) These aren't like the Twinkies you will kind on the shelves today, this is the old school classic twinkie recipe...you know, back in the day before High Fructose Corn Syrup was the first ingresient in every packaged food so naturally it will taste different, look a little different and feel different. The only thing I wasn't pleased with was the clean up of the machine. Fantastic groves which batter seeped into was a royal pain to clean. Really prompts you to be certain you don't over fill your molds...

I received one of these as a Christmas gift. I have been looking for red velvet twinkies for a long time. (Wal-Mart used to carry an off brand, but they were good) So I made the red velvet recipe in the book. It makes 14 - 16 Twinkies, not 8. Fill the molds 2/3 full, not 3/4 full like it says in the book, because it will come up over the top and burn. Make sure you grease the molds well. I flipped it over and let the cakes fall out onto the flat plate. (make sure you unplug it before you do that) I used a small rubber spatula to gently pry out any that were stuck. I found that 6 minutes is about perfect. At least for the red velvet. The bottom begins to burn at 7 minutes. The red velvet recipe is sort of dense. Next time, I will cut the flour down to 1 cup instead of the 1 1/4. The green light is of absolutely no use. It says to plug it in, spray with oil and fill. Then bake 4 - 7 minutes. It comes on then goes off. If it is supposed to be a "ready to...
