I am a petitie woman, 5' 5" and 115 pounds, and I did not find this difficult to use. I am fit, but no she-hulk, you know? You just have to use it correctly! I can only imagine the negative reviews are from people who just made honest mistakes with assembling the blade and probably don't realize how well this thing works, or they had defective units, which is always a possibility. TIPS: 1. Pay Attention to the blade mechanism. There is definite direction to the blade, meaning if you have the blade upside down, you are just pushing potato against dull metal, which, duh, isn't going to cut anything. It would be like trying to cut a potato with a butter knife, but worse. There is a sticker on the blade, it tells you which side is UP. If you look closely, you can see which side of the blade is sharpened. Just make sure this side is what you pushing the potato against. 2.
